Dash8 & Navy (hereinafter, “YHCs”) arrived at the AO early to scope out the place. This was especially important because this was Dash8’s VQ and the first time he had ever done a workout at this particular AO. Seeing the AO was in great shape and most of the disaster recovery equipment that was staged in the parking lot on Thursday morning was now gone, we were excited for the PAX to arrive and get to it.
10 strong men showed up out of the gloom (literally, it was really foggy this morning) and Dash8 started us off on the right foot with a “nearly” flawless mission statement. The fun started with Dash8 leading us on a good old fashioned Marine Corps formation run to include “colorful” cadence. We lined up in columns of 2 and set off on a little mosey to the football field. Dash 8 led us to the far end zone (whereupon Birdman from Havelock HS alerted Purplerain of WCHS to pay attention because, “this is what an end zone looks like”) then circled the PAX (Cheech had caught up to us at this point and we were now 11 strong) up for a little WARMORAMA:
SSH IC x 25, Cotton Pickers IC x 20, Sun Gods IC fwd/back x25
Dash8 then took us to the sideline to partner up for THANG 1 and a little DORA. P1 did exercises while P2 sprinted to the far sideline and back. We completed 50 squats, 50 lunges IC & 50 merkins. After DORA, Dash8 lined us up for some Imperial Walkers and Inch Worm Merkins for about 20 yards each. Dash8 then led us on a little mosey to the bleachers where we again partnered up. P1 ran stadium tours while P2 did dips AMRAP, switch & repeato. Second round was P1 on another stadium tour while P2 did 25 erkins, 25 step ups & 25 more dips. Dash8 finished of the first part of his VQ with another motivating formation run including the always popular “Eskimo” cadence around the football field.
Navy then took over from Dash8 and led the PAX on a little mosey back towards the band practice field at the request of Purplerain. Apparently Purplerain had so much fun using that field at the Rolling Stone on Thursday that he wanted some more. By the way, if you see Purplerain, please encourage him to come out of his shell. He is really nice but is also a quiet and introverted guy and he doesn’t talk much. Navy’s plan was simple and Snooki approved. While treating the PAX to some more great 80’s music blaring from the pre-positioned bluetooth speaker, we would alternate between wall work and a variety of plank work moving only about 20 yards in between.
THANG 2 started with a peoples chair. Each PAX took turns peeling off and knocking out 10 merkins. We then moved to the sidewalk (too keep Purplerain out of the dirt – then he voluntarily got dirty anyway) for our first round of plank work which included J-Lo’s IC x 10 and Pickle Pounders IC x10. We continued to alternate wall work and plank work as follows:
Peoples Chair with alternating leg lifts IC x 10 – Peter Parkers IC x10, Step through planks IC x10
Peoples Chair with alternating toe touches IC x 10 – Mountain Climbers IC x 10, Plank Jacks IC x 10
Peoples Chair oblique crunches IC x 10 – chillicut plank & high plank 30 second holds each
Australian Mountain Climbers IC x 10 – Plank Jacks IC x 20
BTW with side clap IC x 5 then, as a special treat, we moved on to the NIGHT TRAIN for our final plank work.
The Night Train combines two of Griswold’s favorite things, Guns & Roses music and Merkins. For this little gem we would start in plank position and complete a hand release merkin every time Axl Rose belted out the words “train” or “plane” for the duration of the song “Night Train”. Based on the amount of “cheering”, I think everyone else in attendance is now a GNR fan as well! All in all this gave us 25 hand release merkins and about 4 1/2 minutes of various plank positions.
PAX no fully gassed from YHCs double barrel planning, Navy turned the reigns back over to Dash8 who led the PAX on a short mosey back to the flag for some dealer’s choice Mary. Cooter contributed 25 American Hammers IC, Birdman gave us a bevy of WWI’s and Dash 8 took us to a hard stop with some hello dollies with long holds.
Dash8 completed his very successful VQ with the count off, nameorama, announcements, prayer requests and prayers.
Announcements – all county convergence next Sat at WCHS – watch Slack for details. Volunteer opportunities with the Baptist men at both ends of the county today. Contact Griswold or Holiday Mansion for details. Coffeteria at Java Post. Prayer requests – please keep Purplerain’s wife and family in your prayers as she deals with her health, recovery and finds an employment path that will allow her to continue to serve and share her talents. Please keep Dash8’s friend Bucky and his wife in your prayers as they deal with her physical recovery and struggle with dementia. Prayers – Cooter once again stepped up to take us out in prayer with heartfelt and meaningful words as always.
YHCs appreciate the opportunity to lead. As always, it is an honor and a pleasure. Thank you Lunchbox for trusting us to co-Q this morning!
Dash8 & Navy, Out.
