Eleven men gathered in the gloom on a dreary Saturday morning. YHC had checked the forecast and 50 degrees with only a 20% chance of rain looked good. With a cool north wind blowing, 50 felt more like 45. Thankfully YHC, at the last minute decided to put on Jang’s favorite pants and grabbed a toboggan. Alas, Jang’s presence was in spirit only. A special shout out to Rooney as he was the only Friday night patron of PLM to post (that I know of). After sitting on the bridge yesterday evening for what seemed like an hour, YHC ventured to PLM, enjoyed some conversation and a fantastic IPA then headed home to put the final touches on what hopefully would be a fairly decent beatdown.

When YHC arrived at the parking lot, there was a white SUV parked that did not look familiar. YHC introduced himself to Michelin Man and welcomed him to Carterico. One by one the Pax arrived. A rolling Warm-a-Rama ensued and sadly YHC does not know the difference between a downward dog and baby cobra. I’ll pay closer attention next time.

YHC then directed the Pax to his truck where they would find some decorative bricks, courtesy of Boss Tweed’s Marina. Navy brought his 30lb Kettlebell and YHC had a couple of 10 lb dumbbells so each Pax had at least something to lift. YHC then did something highly unusual: each Pax was given an index card with the exercises written down. They were: Merkins, Squats, WWI’s, Tricep Extensions, Burpees, Curls, Jump Lunges, Heel Clicks (think Dorothy but with a jump), SSH and Rut Rows (bent over rows). The instructions were simple enough: Ten Merkins followed by ten Squats etc. until the set was complete. Then we would start over for the next set. So we did 10 exercises 10 times each for 10 sets. For those counting at home, that’s 1,000 reps. YHC had intended to lead the first two sets and leave the remaining 8 sets for the Pax to perform OYO. After the second set Bayliner suggested that we just go down the line and have each man call an exercise as we moved through the set. Why didn’t YHC think of that? Bay’s idea proved to be a good one as it kept us all on the same exercise and kept everyone in the game, so to speak. It was odd calling for 10 SSH S/C as opposed to I/C like we are used to. YHC was concerned that this routine may get a little boring so we broke 2 or 3 times for a short series of sprints.

With time running short we quickly moseyed to the pull up bars for a series of pull-ups starting at 10 and we counted our reps down by 2’s and stopped at 4. Warning: the wooden pull-up bars can be slick so be aware if you find yourself there again and it’s damp.

YHC called for a jail break back to the trucks. No time for Mary so announcements and prayer requests were called for. Lassie’s brother will be having surgery soon in Chapel Hill so continued prayers for him and his family. Frosted Flake needs prayers for his father and his family. If YHC has left someone out, please forgive me. Shroom took us out with a heartfelt prayer.

Knocking out 1,000 reps of most any sort of exercise before 8 a.m. is an accomplishment. And thanks to Lassie for slowing us down on the Burpees which helped us with our form.

Good job today men.

As usual it was a pleasure to lead. And it’s good to know that we are once again welcome to Banks for the post workout breakfast!

Puddles out.
