Eleven men braved the cold, wind and gloom to post at the last HIN in Beaufort for the year.

With the one minute warning sounded,  YHC recited the Mission Statement to perfection and immediately called for Burpees.  A collective groaning noise was clearly audible and YHC led the Pax with 5 single count Burpees.  After 5, YHC asked why no one was counting so we knocked off 5 more and moseyed to the boardwalk where we could see the glow of the full moon  reflecting off Taylor’s Creek.  With maybe 20 yards of boardwalk in front of us,  YHC called for bear crawls to the end of the dock but approximately 3/4 of the  way there I had to Omaha and cut the crawl short.  Lots of mumble chatter about incorporating Burpees and Bear Crawls into Warm-a-Rama.

We moseyed do the Beaufort Cutting Board and concluded Warm-a-Rama with more traditional exercises such as Merkins, SSH, buttkickers and high knees. Sufficiently warmed up we moseyed just a bit down Front Street and stopped at the first cone placed in the middle of the road.  We partnered up and YHC explained how the first round would go:  Partner A would do as many merkins as possible while partner B would do one Merkin at the first cone, sprint to the second cone, approx. 50 yards away and drop for 2 Merkins, run back to the first cone and do 3 Merkins, sprint to the 3rd cone, approx. 100 yards away, drop and do 4 Merkins then sprint back to the first cone.  Partner B would then begin his round of Merkins while partner A did the sprint/merkin combo. This sequence was repeated once more, we had a brief recovery and we began the same format but this time the exercise was the Squat.  After those two rounds were done, we took a short break and recovered with a set of low slow flutters led by Winnie.   Then it was back to the cones with the same format but the exercise was the Burpee (another collective groan from the Pax) and we finished up with two rounds of sprints and SSH’s.

We then moseyed down Front St. and turned left onto Craven where the Pax was instructed to perform Balls to the Wall, but with a twist.  The end man would complete a 7 count.  The Pax would come off the wall, do 2 Merkins then resume Balls to the Wall.  Next man in line would then give a 7 count, the Pax would drop and perform 2 merkins and this continued  until the end of the line. Talk about shoulder burn.

Short on time, HYC wanted to get some more running in.  The Pax formed a single line on Front St. and we took off for a semi sprint Indian Run to a light pole maybe 300 yards down the road.  We arrived, took a short 10 count recovery and then did an Indian Run back to the parking lot where all this fun first started.  With about 7 minutes left (thanks Twitty for being my time keeper) we all assumed the plank position on the Boardwalk for a plank count down.  Time was called after 5 minutes and T-Claps to Gert and Boss Tweed for holding plank the entire 5 minutes (if I”m missing anyone that finished with them, my apologies)!

After a brief Mary we moved on to announcements and prayer requests.  Gert announced the the HIN would move to Ft. Benjamin for the month of February.  Jigawatt took us out with a heartfelt prayer.

This was not an easy workout.  By my count, over half the Pax were Respect guys.  And I think each of us held in there well with the “younger” men.  As always, it was a pleasure to lead this group and we are all looking forward to warmer mornings, hopefully soon!
