I’m no Spartan, I was one, back in ’85… and while the Gates-Chili Spartans may not be the warriors of 480 B.C, the men of Carterico make me feel like one….. maybe the hunchback but I’m gonna go with it still.
37* and Glorious. Lights on in the parking lot and headlights rolling in one after another it became apparent I had too few bands for the crowd so I once again visited the capital of Nebraska. After what I remember as a flawless mission statement, core principles and disclaimer during Michael Phelps, Sungods (little g) and one 10 second stretch for PR that set the tone for the morning. Off we went
Thang 1
– Mosey down the darkened root filled nature trail with a head lamp in the front of the group and CP with a flashlight at the 6. Mosey to the pull up bar for a round of planks whilst 1/2 of the pax took a turn knocking out 5 pull ups. It should be noted here that my intention when I Q is to bring a little different target. Sometimes well received and other times not, but if youre making everyone happy, youre doing it wrong. Continued mosey the path to the bridge for Urkins on my count and then to the next bench to circle up for Sumo Squats in cadence. Once complete we moseyed to the end of the trail for ATMs on my count. Its here where I had to eat crow, no matter how much of a spartan you may feel like, there is always room for improvement in how you lead. SEE Q SCHOOL PLUG AT THE END. With that evolution complete it was Rinse Repeat Reverse. Shortly before arriving at the pullup bars for the second set of Pax to complete their reps, YHC made good on teaching a tumbling move that I think only Navy saw and I would not recommend copying. YHC turned the faceplant into a roll, kept my frown upside down and never lost a step I might add.
Thang 2
– Mosey to the SST (Star Spaceship Thingy). 16 PAX found just the right spot on my favorite spot for activities and we commenced with , yes, pullups. This time from the Supine position and on my count. The SST is great for assisted Squats so that came next followed by Dips because Horseshoes aren’t just for crabs and yard games, that reference for the gym rats in the crowd. Fancy Schmancy isn’t a bad thing embrace the new – Supine Pickle pointers are the boss tweeds of the new decade, I felt them (like the new bud light lime) in the can and Im bringing them back soon. With my sensitive side showing after a little mumble chatter it was off to the parking lot to nip that in the bud with
Thang 3
The Spartan, or Sparteeen as Cheech taught me. Jail Break from one end of the parking lot to the cones, set 3/4 of the way down, for 10 Merkins then all 16 PAX walk back together. Injuries be damned we have some studs here in the West. The Spartan may be a Thang -1 in my next Q because even after 8 reps and doubling up on the Merkins to reach 150 time was running short. The last jailbreak was an all out with Merkins till you drop. Here is where I prop Princess who wasn’t stopping till we dragged him to the basketball court for.
Thang 4
– Two lines of 8 facing each other for a little puff puff pass the Kettlebell whilst American hammering. One line with the 35lb the other with the 25lb down and back and switch rinse repeat.

Im continually inspired by the sparklezez , the princezez, the cheechez but damn, there is a line of new sherrifzez in town waiting to be fantastic leaders all due to the regulars or morning pain dealers as you’re referred to in my house. Come on out next Friday to the Mullet Wrapper and get Q SCHOOLED by Purplerain because I know better than most that being the Q isn’t as easy as it looks on a winky.
DOOLITTLE is a total stud and I sincerely hope that someday I have half your commitment and energy, simply put – you inspire me. ROO, so great to see you , you killed it today!!
