15 men joined YHC for a beat down in the cold this morning. My car’s thermostat was reading 43 degrees. Put on top of that a strong, westerly wind and it was down right cold. After casing the workout route one last time, YHC pulled in to the Sanitary Parking lot at 5:20. There were a couple of trucks already present but I had no idea who they belonged to. The passengers didn’t want out. So YHC bit the bullet, exited his car and then came a steady stream of PAX ready to post on this cold Monday. Everyone is moving around trying to keep warm as best they can. Misty finds a place on the bumper of a truck trying to get out of the wind. Mumble chat was in near record territory, at least as far as I have heard. As the last of the trucks pulled up, the one minute warning was given. At exactly 0530 the Mission Statement was flawlessly delivered. But guess what? The mumble chatter totally drowned out my perfect delivery. 5 Burpees please. I have to stop here and acknowledge that YHC left his reading glasses at home. All the exercises and runs were written on my index card. Little good it did me to have it when I can’t read it. So back in my pocket it went leaving YHC no choice but to wing it. I have a heck of a hard time recalling the exercises and rep counts. This BB will be pretty close to the real thing but certainly not an exact count. As that famous (infamous?) Philosopher Duck Butter once said, never let the truth get in the way of a good story. We have a good story to tell about this morning (4 minutes of planks, anyone?) but the exercises and rep counts will be educated guesses. No worries on that. I think we all had a plenty of whatever we were doing.
As mentioned, 5 Burpees followed by a one minute plank followed by another 5 burpees kicked off the festivities. We then moseyed to the parking lot across from 4th street for The Thang.
Bear crawl from the curb to the next curb. The bear crawl was followed by:
25 Urkins, hands on the curb SC
25 SSH IC
60 Mountain Climbers, 30 each leg OYO
Mosey to 9th st. Bear Crawl approx. 25 yards or so southward towards the water. We hang a right and run to the boat ramp parking lot and do:
10 Burpees OYO
Maybe some LSF IC
Another plank, this time holding for a minute and a half.
Back to Shackelford St. for a short run then hanging a left towards the water. More Burpees, LSF, planks and WW!’s, etc. This pattern of various exercises continued to 14th street. The idea was to get as close to the sound as we could while doing these different exercises.
At 14th st. we formed 2 lines and did an Indian Run to the BASK at 9th st. There we did diamond merkins, maybe 15 reps. SC. Triceps smoked. We continued to run east and stopped at the Cutting Board at Big Rock Landing for the grand finale.
We circled up on the Board. YHC put 4 minutes on the clock and from there we held a plank. The PAX was encouraged to alternate between straight arm and forearm (chilcut).as needed. If you dropped, you were to recover and get right back to the plank. It was a long 4 minutes but a great test of core strength. There were no show of hands by anyone that completed the 4 minutes without dropping. I have no idea how many and it doesn’t matter. The point is if you can’t hold a 4 minute plank, then that gives you something to work on. If you can hold it, then next time start at 5 minutes and see how you do. And yes Jang, if you post next week in BFT at the clam-digger I promise you we will do the Men’s Health Merkin test. 3 minutes of pure joy!
We ran from the Cutting Board back to the parking lot arriving at 0613. Duck Butter led us in 20 or so box cutters and we stretched left over right and right over left.
Announcements:
Jang gave us the workouts for tomorrow so check Slack if you need a reminder. This Friday, Nov. 3 will be the celebration of the 2 year anniversary of F3 Carterico. There will be a convergence at Rotary followed by breakfast at Cox’s.
There were no prayer requests. YHC took us out..
As always, it was a pleasure and a treat to lead this morning. I appreciate the patience of the PAX as we stopped at various points along the route. By the time I got there you guys were ready to roll again. Thanks for letting me catch my breath as I pondered the next set of exercises. We covered about 2 miles, did maybe 40 burpees along with lots of merkins and certainly more planks than we are used to doing. Thanks for posting with me and thanks for your support.
Puddles out.
