The Thang:
In honor of Columbus Day, YHC decided to use a Columbus theme for the workout. This workout would be Merkin-heavy since we all know Columbus “discovered” ‘Merica. We started with a mosey along the Fort Benjamin trail with 5 stops, one for each week of Columbus’s first voyage to the “New World”. At each stop we did:
1 – Double Merkin Burpee
4 – Carolina Dry Docks (since it has a boaty name)
9 – Merkins
2 – Worst Merkin Ever

We did 3 rounds of these at each of the first 2 stops (3 because Columbus was denied funding from 3 different countries before Spain gave in and funded his journey) but YHC reduced the workout to 1 round at each of the remaining stops in the interest of time and pure exhaustion.

After the Pax completed the circumnavigation of the trail (I know Columbus didn’t circumnavigate, but stay with me) we lined up for 2 laps of Indian Run around the parking lot. YHC chose this exercise because Columbus landed in the Bahamas but thought he was in the West Indies so he named the natives there Indians.

We then moseyed over to the soccer field for 3 rounds of Bermuda Triangle. In this exercise, 3 pylons are set up approximately 30 yards apart. 1 Burpee is done at pylon 1, Bear Crawl to pylon 2 and do 2 Burpees, Bear Crawl to pylon 3 and do 3 Burpees.

Columbus was appointed the leader of Santo Domingo after his 3rd voyage. Apparently he was not a very good leader because Spain sent a ship to bring him and his brother back to Spain in chains. To honor this not-so-proud moment in his life, the Pax did 20 Prisoner Squats.

When he returned to Spain, he was pardoned by the king and he returned to the Caribbean on his 4th voyage. He had to make an unplanned stop in Jamaica because of the poor condition of his ship. We finished the workout with about 1 minute each of Boat/Canoe and Plank Compass.

Announcements and Prayer Concerns:
There will be workouts tomorrow, check Slack for details. Prayers for Blart’s brother-in-law, Boss Tweed, and Dan Carr will be having surgery on Wednesday. Blart took us out in prayer.

I enjoyed leading today. It was great to have an FNG (Ricardo).
